Where To Eat While In Sri Lanka

This is my first post about food, and while writing it, I can not avoid feeling a bit insecure when talking about a topic where I have not exactly plenty of expertise. However, that might be a reason to do it, don’t you think? Also, food is a biggggg chunk of traveling and, as important as gain new knowledge by having new experiences, it is to discover new tastes around the world.

Going to the point, one of the most tasty meals (and beautiful pictures) I found out was unexpectedly in Sri Lank and a good idea to create this very first post about to food.

My discovery, totally random, thanks to a Tuk Tuk driver -while travelling from Kandy to Sigiriya- pushed me out to this place. Their careful food option presentations, and the fact that it was a beautiful place in the middle of nowhere, didn’t do anything else rather than increasing its attractive. Just a cabin, close to a tropical forest with a vast extension of farming field in front. Cute on the inside and full of beautiful benches cut out from trees in a raw manner.

It is nothing else rather than just a buffet restaurant, where it is possible to try up to 10-12 completely different types of typical dishes in the Sri Lankan cuisine, including:

  • Fish ambul thyal
  • Kottu roti
  • Kukul mas curry (chiken curry)
  • Parippu (dhal curry)
  • Lamprais
  • Hoppers
  • Polos
  • Wambatu moju
  • Gotu kola sampbol
  • Kiribath with lunu miris
  • Pol Roti 🥥

All fresh food, made on the very same day. I still remember the delightful nan bread made with coconut 🥥🤤. I have to say that just the nan and desert, worth the visit and taste much better than any other places along my trip through Colombo-Kandy-Sigiriya-Ella-Tangalle-Unawatuna…

Last thing to keep in mind while travelling in Sri Lanka: Locals might pay half prices on -almost- everything compare to travellers, but if we can afford travelling, we might also afford that difference. Sounds fare to me, isn’t it? Just keep that in mind.

If you have the time and this stop fit in your itinerary… give it a try. It was one of the best experiences I had while backpacking In Sri Lanka. I totally recommend it 😊
